Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a treatment mostly used to treat kidney stones.
The lithotriptor attempts to break up the stone with minimal collateral harm by using an externally applied, focused, high-intensity acoustic pulses. Stones location is usually found by ultrasound or x-ray. The patient is sedated or anesthetized for the procedure in order to help them remain still and reduce possible discomfort. uries.
